Yacht slips harbor and hits on beach

The lifeboat team of Whitby performed one of their toughest rescues after a yacht slipped the harbor entrance and then ran aground on the beach. On Friday night, the drama unfolded when the single crewed boat ran the wrong side of West Pier.
One of the passer bys told that he was on Crescent Gardens and went to meet the family and saw the boat too close, in his views. He got his binoculars and radio and thought that he would go back out and round the pier ends but he did not, he was going parallel.
By the time he saw him again, he had come across and was approximately fifty meters from the harbor wall. He added that he then called that coastguard and they got the inshore and then the all weather boat.
The whole thing got difficult by the weather condition and the rough sea both for the crews in lifeboats and inshore. They were unable to tow the yacht in deeper water level but the big yacht could not get near enough.
One of the crew members had to get on board RA to help the captain while a tow line was attached. The eye witness added that if he had been on the other side of the piers the boat would have been mangled but the sand is a lot more forgiving.
